About This Challenge

The Battle of Actium (31 BC) was a pivotal naval battle between the forces of Octavian and the combined forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. It ultimately led to the end of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire.

  • Octavian’s strategic positioning of his ships played a crucial role in the outcome of the battle.
  • Cleopatra’s decision to flee the battle with her fleet weakened Antony’s forces and ultimately led to their defeat.
  • After their defeat at Actium, Antony and Cleopatra committed suicide, leaving Octavian as the sole ruler of Rome.
