I’ve been interested in learning languages for a long time. Many games and websites can teach you the basics, but after about 20 years of learning Thai, I discovered that once you know the basics, it is all down to vocabulary.
Vocabulary is like a superpower. When I get into a conversation and suddenly don’t know a word, the talking is replaced by an awkward silence. The more I know, the better my life is. Most websites and apps only cover the basics, so it isn’t easy to find anything with advanced vocabulary.
The basics will suffice if you are learning a language to go on holiday. These usually mean words for the hotel, cafe, or other tourist activities.
As an expat, I’ve had to study vocabulary related to veterinary medicine on the way to the vet’s office with an angry cat in the back of the car.
My point is that I wanted to cover as much range as possible with these vocabulary games, and I hope you find it useful.
