Roman history is divided into three main periods: the kingdom, the republic, and the empire. In the kingdom period, Romulus and Remus, twin brothers, were said to have founded the city of Rome. They were raised by a she-wolf and eventually fought over who would rule. Romulus won and became the first king of Rome.
The kingdom lasted for about 200 years until the people overthrew the monarchy and established a republic.
In the republic period, Rome was governed by elected officials and senators. The republic lasted for over 500 years and was a time of great expansion and growth for Rome. However, infighting and corruption eventually led to the downfall of the republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
In the empire, Rome was ruled by emperors who held absolute power. The empire was a time of great wealth and power for Rome but also a time of decline and eventual collapse.
