  • April 20, 1534: Cartier makes his first voyage to North America
  • May 10, 1534: Cartier reaches Newfoundland and explores the Gulf of St. Lawrence
  • September 5, 1534: Cartier returns to France and reports his findings to King Francis I
  • May 19, 1535: Cartier embarks on his second voyage to North America
  • September 7, 1535: Cartier reaches the site of present-day Quebec City and establishes a settlement called Charlesbourg-Royal
